NHS England , National Urgent and Emergency Care Director
Pauline Philip is the National Urgent and Emergency Care Director for NHS England. Pauline provides national leadership for the delivery of the Urgent and Emergency Care review, the A&E Improvement Plan and associated elements of the NHS Five Year Forward View. As well as her role within NHSE, Ms Philip has been the Chief Executive of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital Foundation Trust since July 2010. A nurse by background, Pauline has previously worked for the World Health Organisation (joined in 2002), where she was the Director of Patient Safety. Prior to working internationally, she spent eight years in key Chief Executive positions in London, followed by her appointment as Director of Mental Health for the London Region of the Department of Health. She is also the co-founder of LifeBox, an international charity focussed on making surgery safe.
